Velocity B43

Is the Velocity B43 Bad Ass Or Just Plain Bad?

So we had the Velocity Deep V, coming in at 520g or so.  A well hard, rigid, deep v rim that if spoked properly will take a right evil pounding and beating and come out wanting more.  Along comes the B43 as Velocity drops the bomb with this real heavy weight.

Velocity B43So what can we say about the Velocity B43 besides it is such a cool looking rim?

Well the Velocity B43 weight is a real issue at 770g for the 700c.

That’s a whopping 250g heavier that Deep V’s.

It is a triple, yes that is triple walled rim which gives that huge weight issue.

Its profile makes the Velocity B43 deeper at around 43mm than the 32mm V’s.

Velocity Wheels says its design is more aerodynamic and gives maximum visual effect.  While we agree with the impact, especially if you go for bright green polkadot, aerodynamics at that weight is up to be questioned.  Weight is only negated by aerodynamics if achieving a constant and consistent rolling speed.  To be honest, it is the tricks crowd that’s going to be pulling out the cash for these as well as those who live in pothole hell.

The B43 is just made for tricks and is begging to be flashed and dumped on hard in a real ‘mine’s bigger than yours’ testosterone fueled trick fest.

Velocity B43But be warned, if you want the flashiest colors, then for a Velocity B43 48h the colors it comes in are limited, so get on that phone and order now as you could have to wait a while.  But boy will it be worth it.

Looking at the practical side though, these loud and proud rims look and feel stronger than even the Deep V and also they are probably stronger than a set of Mavic Deemax DH rims as well if truth be told.

So what you are getting is the performance and strength of a carbon rim without the cash stripping price of the former.

In fact the Velocity B43 price should come in under $100 for the rims themselves.

Add a bit on for the build and you can probably pick up a full set of built Velocity B43 wheels for about $250.

Velocity B43

Besides the tricking community, these have been primarily designed by Velocity with track training TT and racing in mind.  They are available in non-machined sidewalls if you have a preference and the Velocity B43 Gold really looks the business.  It is still a standard clincher rim though and is the usual 19mm wide

I think with the Velocity B43 it is really going to come down to personal choice and very much personality.

If the long term build quality matches that of the Deep V, I think we can say that this is one of the toughest and hardest rims around as well as the heaviest.

It is also one of the coolest and is going to be pretty popular just for that look.

So make your choice and go with it.
